Introduction

Nestled prettily on a 146-acre private land on the northeast Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, Tortuga Lodge and Gardens offers splendid views of the adjoining Tortuguero National Park and its tropical water bodies. Surrounded by lush lawns, a colorful riot of orchids and innumerable tropical trees, the thatched riverside eco-retreat (owned by the much experienced Costa Rica Expeditions) is well-known for its customized nature-based activity packages and world-class yet personalized service. The lodge positions itself as an intimate and higher budget small-size getaway for clients looking for a more exclusive experience. One of the oldest lodges in the Tortuguero region, the Tortuga Lodge and Gardens features labyrinth forest trails in its vicinity along with a multitude of comfortable in-house guest amenities. This natural retreat has mastered the art of combining the well-appointed elegance of a luxury resort with the unadulterated rustic natural charm of an eco-lodge.

Activities and Amenities

Guests can enjoy a host of activities from exploring the backwater lagoons of the pristine rainforest (by boat riding with an expert Naturalist) to embarking on private turtle expeditions during the peak hatching season. Other activities around the area involve natural history boating tours, fishing tours and surrounding village tours. There a free guided 6am walk with a knowledgeable Tortuguero naturalist guide for early risers. Lookout out for the forest’s famous howler money troops and poison dart frogs at daybreak or late afternoon.

Tortuga also houses a pretty pool, cleverly built along the water’s edge to give an illusion of the water blending into the Tortuguero prime canal water.

Tortuga Lodge’s in-house riverside restaurant offers hearty fixed menu meals, which are made using the freshest local ingredients and served family style (complete with white linen and candle-lit riverside tables) rather than as a buffet service.

Service and Accommodation

Upholding the impeccable hospitality tradition of Costa Rica Expeditions, Tortuga Lodge boasts of top-notch service that is friendly, professional, attentive and accommodating. The staff is helpful, knowledgeable and well-trained in attuning guests to their natural environment. Their affable vibe and exclusive service are the most significant factors working in favor of Tortuga’s popularity.

Accommodation at the Tortuga Lodge comprises 26 Deluxe Suites and a Penthouse. All rooms are comfortable, spacious and elegantly decorated to blend luxury with back-to-nature simplicity. Every room comes equipped with a private bath (with a solar heated shower), free wireless internet, a ceiling fan and in-room safe along with some other basic amenities.
